Autumn's Here: Top Herefordshire pubs for a fireside pint

When cold and miserable outside, the only sensible option is to decamp inside. Preferably with a pint.

With that in mind we've pulled together a Herefordshire Live guide to some of the top 'shire pubs where you can pair sipping Butty with sitting fireside.

Yew Tree, Preston-on-Wye

Preston on Wye, between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye, HR2 9JT | 01981 500359 |

YewTreeInn lrg

A thriving pub that, according to those in the know, is extra special on fish & chip night. Events coming up include a Bring and Share Supper on October 15 and a Halloween night with tunes from Crows Fly on October 29.

The Cottage of Content, Carey

Carey, between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye, HR2 6NG | 01432 840242 |

It lives up to its name, and was just named Best Country Pub in the 2017 Good Pub Guide. Check out the tapas menu on Fridays (5.30pm to 7pm).

Bunch of Carrots, Hampton Bishop

Hampton Bishop, near Hereford, HR1 4JR | 01432 870237 |

Just 3 miles from Hereford, there's a welcoming vibe and the weekend carvery consistently gets good reviews.

Crown and Anchor, Lugwardine

Cotts Lane, Lugwardine, near Hereford, HR1 4AB | 01432 850630 |

Plenty of wonky beams and charm on offer. And it's another pub currently getting top reviews for its Sunday lunch.

England’s Gate Inn, Bodenham

Bodenham, near Hereford, HR1 3HU | 01568 797286 |

A 16th Century pub with swish accomodation available in the adjacent coaching house. There's a "boutique burger and drink" night every Thursday (6pm-9pm) and a quiz on the first Sunday of every month.

Foyles, Glasbury-on-Wye

Glasbury-on-Wye, near Hay-on-Wye, HR3 5LH | 01497 847550 |

Just over the border, this gorgeous hotel near Hay-on-Wye looks the part and the slightly tweaked autumn menu offers some serious seasonal eats.

The Feathers, Ledbury

25 High Street, Ledbury, HR8 1DS | 01531 635266 |

This good looking black-and-white-timbered building has been a watering hole since the 16th-century. There are 22 bespoke bedrooms, local beers and a touch of high society.

The Oak Inn at Staplow

Bromyard Road, just outside Ledbury, HR8 1NP | 01531 640954 |

Very cosy, very country, very dog friendly. Get in quick on a chilly night if you want to bagsy a sofa seat right next to the log burner.

The Bridge Inn, Michaelchurch

Michaelchurch Escley, Golden Valley, HR2 0JW | 01981 510646 |

Big old log burner at this 16th century riverside inn. There's also camping, glamping, a B&B and fine food which, to be fair, all go down well with a pint of Butty or crisp G&T.
