May the 4th be with you: Happy Star Wars Day, Herefordshire

Nerds assemble, it's Star Wars Day. And here's why Herefordshire should celebrate.

Yoda himself was from Hereford.

Hereford-born actor Frank Oz provided the voice for the small-but-mighty Jedi in six of the Star Wars films, as well as various spin-offs and a long list of beloved Muppets, from Miss Piggy to the Cookie Monster.

Yes, the American's parents were only visiting the UK when he was born BUT this is #StarWarsDay so we're claiming him as one of our own.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens was filmed down the road.

Vital scenes in J J Abrams' epic were filmed at Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean, 10 mins from the Herefordshire border.

Kathleen Kennedy, producer and president of LucasFilm, said the atmospheric woodland was "the most magical forest on the face of the earth".

Puzzlewood is regularly used by film and TV crews. BBC primetimers Doctor Who and Merlin, Bryan Singer's 2013 film Jack the Giant Slayer and Channel 4's Secret Supper Club were all filmed among the trees. You can see the 'sets' yourself thanks to Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean tourism's film and TV trail Details at www.wyedeantourism.co.uk.

The Time Machine Museum of Science Fiction in Bromyard

Alright. Tenious link. But inside The Time Machine Museum of Science Fiction in Bromyard you'll find an array of Star Wars memorabilia.

The little museum, on the corner of The Square, is also home to various Red Dwarf, Doctor Who and Gerry Anderson props, puppets and retro TV monsters.

Details here: timemachineuk.com.

If that isn't reason enough to celebrate #Maythe4thBeWithYou we don't know what is.
