Hereford Indie Food 2017: Mystery Jets, The Foals, and Seriously Good Street Food

What: Hereford Indie Food 2017

When: August 26, 27, 28

Where: Berrington Street car park, Hereford (behind The Burger Shop/Book Shop)

You sitting down? Good.

The sophomore line-up for the Hereford Indie Food is in. And it’s hotter than Rayeesa’s Rogan Josh.

Foals’ Edwin Congreave is taking the weekend off from indie-rocking the EDM out of every Mediterranean mega-festival to spin a set in a Hereford car park, because, well why not? Presumably he’s being bribed with a lifetime’s supply of pulled pork croquettes from the A Rule of Tum lot.

Also taking to 1s and 2s for a night are the Mystery Jets (quite literally Mystery Jets as it is yet to be confirmed which Jet in particular) and Matt Horne (you know, Gavin From Gavin And Stacey) who’s been busy turning himself in to a top DJ while his former, formerly-chubby writing partner’s gone all Hollywood.

It’s a musical line up that more than meets the high bar set by the foodie fest’s debut 11-and-a-half months ago. And by high bar, I mean Gus from Alt-J walking down West Street, Jack and Coke in hand after playing his second DJ set in as many nights, telling anyone in earshot he was ‘GOING TO SAXBYS’.

Hereford Indie Food’s organisers, in their noble mission to bring together people through food and drink, give top billing on their site to the endless list of unique and #FoodPorn-worthy street vendors set to transform a patch of Berrington Street tarmac into a snaking moveable feast for one weekend only.

And while this announcement is not meant to take the shine off any of that, or the talented makers and sellers hawking their bespoke and beautiful wares, or the roster of thoughtful speakers currently assembling like Avengers for a series of TED-ish talks to take place at the same time, it’s hard not to be very effing excited about the prospect of two early-2000s indie rock god-like geniuses gigging in Hereford.

Chatting to the Hereford Indie Food organisers this week about the event, it's ethos and aims, they said this: "Hereford Indie Food is a community driven project which celebrates the independent food scene, chefs, producers and makers in Herefordshire.

"The basic idea behind Hereford Indie Food Festival is simple, it seemed to make sense that a county famed for it’s food and rural nature should have one, and instead of waiting for it to happen, we thought we’d do it ourselves.

"The purpose of the festival is to showcase and promote Herefordshire as a destination for good food, and to strengthen and grow our local community and economy."

Sounds good, right?
