News roundup: Ellie Goulding's MTV award nomination

  • Lyonshall-girl-done-good Ellie Goulding has been nominated in the MTV Europe Music Awards, which'll be held in Rotterdam in November. She's been tipped for Best World Stage Act for her Piazza Del Duomo, Milan show in 2015, while Olly Alexander, a former Hereford College of Arts student, is in the running for Best UK and Ireland Act with his band Years & Years. 'Mon the 'shire.
  • Herefordshire Council's headache over financial findings isn't going away yet. External auditors just published a report saying "there are clearly lessons to be learned around quality control of finanical reporting to committee". It's linked to "inconsistencies" around how much was reportedly spent on the Hereford City Link Road scheme (source: Hereford Times).
  • Fewer drivers using mobile phones are being caught by police, according to a BBC report. Around 178,000 people were stopped by police in 2011/12 but that had dropped to fewer than 95,000 last year. The Police Federation say it's simply because there are fewer traffic cops out on UK roads. From next year new rules will mean drivers get six points on their licence and will face a £200 fine when caught using mobiles at the wheel.
  • And finally, people are still beating each other up >
