City of Culture 2021: 40 reasons why Herefordshire has a beating cultural heart

So there it is. We're not on the shortlist. We're out of the game. We've been goddamn beaten by Coventry.

Herefordshire's 2021 City of Culture bid is officially over after the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport announced tonight (July 14) that the five cities left fighting for the title are Paisley, Stoke-on-Trent, Coventry, Sunderland and Swansea.

Now, listen... we know there's been some sneering about Hereford's bid.

But the ambition has been SPOT ON.

Here's what the Herefordshire Cultural Partnership, the guys behind the bid, said following tonight's announcement.

"Though we are naturally disappointed (and some of us will be turning tonight to the local drink we celebrated in our bid) we have been hugely inspired by the creativity and collaboration shown by so many individuals and organisations in support of the campaign. The work has already born fruit in fresh ideas and partnerships and the Herefordshire Cultural Partnership (HCP) will continue to pursue our vision of enriching the lives of all who live, work and visit Herefordshire through arts and culture."

Here at Herefordshire Live, we know this county was always the underdog but, for us, Herefordshire's cultural beating heart has never been in question.

And here's the proof. Onwards and upwards.
