Sponsored hotlist: 5 festival memories for the countdown to the 5th year of Lakefest

This hotlist is sponsored by Lakefest.

Fancy a family-friendly music festival for the summer? Welcome to Lakefest – celebrating its fifth fun-filled year from August 11 14, right here in Herefordshire.

For the very first time, Lakefest HQ are hosting their ultimate family music festival at the right royal Eastnor Castle and you’re all invited.

Four stages will play host to more music than you can shake a stick at; names already announced include: Primal Scream, Newton Faulkner, Starsailor, We Are Scientists and The Coral. Add to that stacks of family activities and your choice of camping or glamping and you’d be mad to miss it.

We took a stroll down memory lane with the Lakefest founders and asked them to pick out highlights from previous years. Here's what they had to say...

1. Number one has to be Lakefest 2015. The weather was magnificent, the crowds were on fine form and GLC took the Main Stage by storm on a sunny Friday afternoon! Ash, Embrace and N-Trance were just some of the other acts to set the stages alight over the weekend and we’re not ashamed to say that we shed a tear when we had to clear the site and wait another whole year to do it all over again.

2. Chatting to the happy campers is always high on the list. When the music ends and groups of old and new friends return to their tents (or glamping options!) for the night, the buzz is amazing. The family field offers a quieter experience for those with little ones, while the group field means that you can enjoy that one last drink before heading to Bedfordshire (Don’t go there, stay in Herefordshire). We love it when the stars come out to play and you hear the sound of people chatting and laughing.

3. More than music! It sounds crazy but some of our ticket-holders tell us that they don't actually see some of the acts over the weekend as there’s far too much fun to be had with the activities. A fun fair, circus skills, BMX displays… the music is awesome but the entertainment away from the stages is just as tempting for some. A highlight for us is seeing families having fun together, enjoying good food and relaxing.

4. Our loyal guests! It may all sound a bit cheese on toast but we love the fact that each year we see so many of the same faces returning to Lakefest from all over the country, as well as locally. For us, thats really all the encouragement we need to keep doing what we do. We have a good time, they have a good time; everyone has a good time! No time for bad times.

5. Finally we need to take it back to the start. This little beauty was really born from the brains of four guys organising a small cider festival back in 2011 with live music. This led to Lakefest launching in 2012 and now we get to celebrate the fifth year at a larger venue. Come on… what's not to love about that? We can’t wait!
