Lakefest 2016 - first act announced

English four-piece Starsailor are the first act to be announced for Lakefest 2016 - the music festival moving to Eastnor Castle next summer.

Lakefest will be held at Eastnor, near Ledbury, from August 11-14, filling the void left behind by the Big Chill, last held in 2011.

The event, now in its fifth year, was previously held in Gloucestershire with headliners including Ash, Billy Bragg, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Shed Seven, the Magic Numbers, Athlete and Reef.

Post-Britpop band Starsailor had a hit with Four to the Floor back in 2009, supported the likes of The Rolling Stones and U2 and earlier this year released their latest album, Good Souls: Greatest Hits.

“It’s been over 15 years since the band first formed and the songs still mean something to people,” said frontman James Walsh.

“They still sing the words passionately back at us at gigs. We hear stories of how sounds have soundtracked key moment in their life.”

Promising a festival that will be “bigger and better than ever before”, Lakefest organiser Lee Martin said: “The line-up evolves each year, but we will never move away from where we started – promoting local acts and bringing larger acts to a local arena.

“We have an awesome team of supporters and we can promise that our fifth birthday will be nothing short of spectacular. This is just the beginning.”

Testament to the loyalty of revellers is the fact that ticket sales are already soaring (before any acts have been disclosed).
