Lineup Breakdown: What you need to know about El Dorado 2018

Headliners in three words

Maribou State – Achingly cool electro.

Sister Sledge – We. Are. Faaam-i-ly.

Wilkinson – BBC Sport montages.

Potential defining moment

You’ve just finished your sixth Strongbow Dark Fruit, it’s warm out even though the night’s set in and you’re in the middle of the crowd with your mates close enough to shout in to your ear.  The piano intro starts, the vocals kick in, then BOOM - the stage lights flood the whole crowd as the beat from Afterglow kicks in and the whole field throws their arms up as one and goes wild.

Set to ease you through your hangover

Sadar Bahar. If you’ve sold your soul for a couple of extra hours on the dancefloor the night before, this is the man that can bring it back, one 70s sample at a time.

While he came up in the Chicago house scene rubbing shoulders with Frankie Knuckles, Bahar’s all about putting the ‘soul back in the hole’ of house music, playing the kind of funk and disco tracks that will put a bounce right back in your step.

(Honourable mention: Mr Scruff)

Show you’re going to want to be down the front for

When world-renowned party-starters Shy FX make a massive circus tent full of ravers Shake Their Bod-y, you’re going to want to be front and centre.

Band/DJ you’ve never heard of but are now your favourite band/DJ

Honey Dijon, Leon Vynehall or basically anyone spinning on the Percolate-run Lost Ruins Stage.

The former’s an almost-iconic party-starter on the club and fashion scenes, the latter’s a critical darling who likes Afrika Bamabaataa. Both have great Boiler Room sessions, releases on Spotify and are far more likely to be found in an East London basement club than a field near Ledbury. Get acquainted, they could steal your weekend.

Best throwback name on the bill

Artful Dodger. Re-e-e-e-e-wind. Pull on that Kappa shell top you just bought for 100 quid on Depop and two-step down to the Holy Bail for some late 90s/early naughts nostalgia.

The novelty act that will 100% make your Instagram story

It’s El Dorado, so it’s a bit cool for novelty acts, on-stage at least.

But if you looking for a little quirk for the ‘gram, there is a brass band that does Bon Jovi covers (Riot Jazz), the Guy From Red Dwarf spreading the gospel of funk and soul (Craig Charles) and a 60-something-year-old white guy in a pork pie hat who runs back and forward while playing the best reggae and two-tone deep cuts you’ll ever hear (the legendary David Rodigan).
