Preview: Linerunners play Hereford

Music inspired by Leonard Cohen, Joy Division and Nick Cave might not sound like much of a fun evening out but a Hereford band are guaranteeing a splendid time for all.

Linerunners will play alongside the Lonesome Stampede on Wednesday night at The Barrels in Hereford in their last gig until March.

“We’ve always liked the darker stuff but this is our own individual sound. We sound like we can be a bit depressing but we’re not,” says guitarist Steve Davies.

“Our singers (Toby Armitage and Lotty Millward-Brookes) are up front playing extra percussion. This really gets the audience going and Toby even uses a loud hailer on stage.”

The band, which includes Nick Betts on bass and Phil Davies on drums, has been together for two decades and has a catalogue of at least 100 songs.

“We introduced a female singer seven or eight years ago (Lotty),” says Steve. “And we found that really gave us a new lease of life. Lotty helps lighten things up.”

The band are expected on stage at 8.30pm.
