Primal Scream and We Are Scientists to play Lakefest 2016

Cult band Primal Scream and math rockers We Are Scientists are heading to Herefordshire.

Both bands will be headliners at Lakefest, the summer festival coming to Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury, in August.

Lakefest is new to the shire, having previously been held in Gloucestershire, but with headliners like this, it's going to gain some serious attention. It could fill the gap left behind by the Big Chill.

Scottish alt-rockers Primal Scream formed in 1982 and have built up a cult status, straddling indie pop, garage rock and dance. Their 1991 album Screamadelica took them to the mainstream, as well as winning them the first Mercury Music Prize.

The band's 11th studio album, Chaosmosis, is due out in March - a follow-up to 2013's More Light. As well as playing Lakefest, Scream will be headlining the 6 Music Festival in Bristol.

Describing it as a “monumental booking”, Lakefest organisers are – understandly – pretty pleased.

“We have put a huge amount of work into building the right line-up for this year, and I’m so excited to share this latest news with our loyal supporters,” said Lakefest director Lee Martin.

“When we sat down in August to plan 2016 we already knew who we wanted on our stage and it’s a dream come true to be able to take the festival forward in such an immense way.

“There is obviously an impressive change of venue to take into account for this year and so many new and exciting things set to take place.

"We stick to our roots and are four guys who had a vision to put together a music festival – ensuring that the right music is in place is our priority. We couldn't be happier with how things are shaping up and want everyone to come along and enjoy what is 12 months in the making.

"It’s a hobby for us, it’s our passion, and it’s going to be awesome.”

Math rockers We Are Scientists made a name for themselves with one of 2005’s most iconic dance rock records, With Love and Squalor.

Years of touring followed as did a second album, Brain Thrust Mastery, and the now-classic nightlife anthem After Hours. A dab-hand at the festival circuit – they've had main stage slots at Reading and Leeds, Glastonbury, T in the Park, their appearance at Lakefest will support the release of their fourth album TV En Francais.

Earlier this month, Lakefest unveiled post-britpop band Starsailor as the first headliner. The group, who have supported The Killers, The Police, and U2, are best known for the 2003 track Four to the Floor.

Lakefest will be held at Eastnor, near Ledbury, from August 11-14. Tickets are on sale now - £75 plus booking for Early Bird weekenders.
