Put A Date In Your Diary: Sundogs rugby 7s/music/beer festival

...............................
What: Sundogs Festival
Where: Mortimer Park, Hereford Rd, Kingsland, HR6 9SB
When: June 23 - 24
...............................

For anyone who’s never been to a rugby 7s festival, they are basically the biggest backyard BBQ party you’ve ever seen.

Expect beers, bands and odd-shaped balls. Expect short shorts and bright shirts and social players sneaking a cider between games. Expect speed and skill on the field that is a million miles from the December mudfests you may be used to.

Keen? Well track down those misplaced tentpoles, and stock up on Kopparberg, Luctonians are hosting the biggest celebration of the sport the local scene has ever seen with the debut of Sundogs Festival, with the kind of prize money that should keep your team in beers well past the weekend.

A perfect storm for rugby fans, the festival ties in with the first Lions test (June 24), with the Kingsland club opening up for a welcome BBQ on the Friday night, before things kick off in earnest the following morning.

Screening the first test against the All Blacks on big screens, the comps then start – following the hasty application of sweat-proof suncream – with separate tournies for the Men’s Competitive (with the prize money - £1000 winners, £400 r/u - expecting to draw in some elite sides), Men’s Social (ten teams), Ladies Social Touch Rugby (eight teams) and Ladies Hockey – yup, hockey as well.

There’s going to be live music throughout the day/night – from Coventry country to Worcester songstress Amie – with a late-night disco to follow and breweries like uber-cool Tiny Rebel and uber-good Wye Valley Brewery signed on to keep you hydrated, all within stumbling distance of your tent (or taxi).

Men’s Competitive 7s: £120.00,
Men’s Social 7’s: £100
Ladies Rugby: £80
Ladies Hockey: £80
