The internet reacts: the highs and the heartbreak of Hereford FC's trip to Wembley

And after all that, Morpeth shrugged.

Amongst all the swirling highs, heartbreak and hangovers of the FA Vase Final, for fans of Hereford FC there were moments of clarity, timeless and poignant images that, if lost in the moment, will live on after the dust has settled and the plastic pint glasses have been swept away. Among them;

- An army of busses assembled to take what felt like an entire city to bear witness.

- The ninth-minute applause for Adam Stansfield.

- A prodigal son giving a new generation of fans their own “I was there when…” moment to recount in pubs and parks to friends and grandchildren for years to come.

- Peter Beadle, in defeat, leading his squad in a guard of honour, worthy of its name, that in an instant crystallised everything that sets this new club apart from the dog days of the last.

- And that time you stayed out clubbing longer than your grandkids.

Just when you thought your clubbing days were over.. Think again, you are never too old to party at PLAY!! Especially to...

Here we've picked out some of those moments and many more captured by the dual miracles of camera phones and Twitter. Put the kettle on, and have a flick through. To paraphrase The Commitments, “Sure we could’ve won the final and been famous and stuff, but that would’ve been predictable. This way it’s poetry.”
