French film festival @ The Courtyard, Hereford

French film festival @ The Courtyard, Hereford

French films have always had that little je ne sais quoi about them. That quoi is often some Gallic combination of understated character actors, smoking and gratuitous, responsibly-shot nudity. But it tends to make for beautiful cinema.

This month, or at least the end of it, sees a french takeover at the Courtyard with a run of five films from across the Channel being screened as part of 'La Fete du Cinema'.

You can buy a pass for all five films for just £25 - which includes a free pastry and coffee (how Francais?) before the breakfast screening of Blandine Lenoir's 2017 film Aurore.

Here's the schedule:

Mon 20, 2.30pm - Jean de Florette

French classic with Gerard Depardieu's young nose starring in a goldrush-style search for water in the hills or rural France. Tickets.

Thurs 23, 7.45pm - Un Sac de Billes

Two young Jewish boys dodge the Nazis in occupied France. Tickets.

Fri 24, 6pm/ Wed 29, 8pm - Marie Curie: The courage of knowledge

Mon 27, 2.30pm - Manon des Sources

The sequel to Jean de Florette sees Gerard meet his match in the hills. Tickets.

Tues 28, 11am - Aurore
