Inspiring, both in terms of its aims and its seriously gorgeous Herefordshire setting, Hellensmusic 2017 will run from May 3 to 7.
The classical music festival unfurls every spring at historic Hellens Manor in Much Marcle, between Ross-on-Wye and Ledbury. Since it started in 2013, the ambitions have been threefold: to bring exceptional musicians together; to help talented students to learn from world-class professionals; and to bring great music to a lost corner of England.
"The 2017 festival will feature performances by celebrated pianist Christian Blackshaw and a group of exceptional musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, plus the promise of unexpected musical pairings and unforgettable tunes at the festival’s first ever pub concert (at The Feathers Hotel, Ledbury)."
On May 3, the festival gets underway with this talk and concert by the award-winning Cantabile Girls Choir of Hereford Cathedral School.
The 20-strong female choir, led by musical director Jo Williamson, will perform classical, folksong and popular arrangements.
